{"id":29,"date":"2014-09-28T16:51:57","date_gmt":"2014-09-28T20:51:57","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/fcaphilly.org\/?page_id=29"},"modified":"2022-09-25T21:11:17","modified_gmt":"2022-09-26T01:11:17","slug":"about","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/www.fcapa.org\/?page_id=29","title":{"rendered":"About"},"content":{"rendered":"<h3>Our Mission:<\/h3>\n<h5><span style=\"color: #808080;\">To promote informed advance planning for funeral and memorial arrangements<\/span><\/h5>\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"color: #808080;\">We are an education and advocacy organization run by an all volunteer board.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #808080;\">We are not affiliated with the funeral industry or any religious groups.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #808080;\">We educate the public on their rights and options when planning for and\/or purchasing funeral goods and services.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #808080;\">We encourage people to plan arrangements that are in keeping with their personal wishes and budget, and then share that information with their survivors.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #808080;\">We provide written information on a wide variety of end-of-life related issues including: advance directives and health care proxies, how to put your financial house in order, hospice, burial, green burial, cremation, body, tissue and organ donation, embalming, viewing, funeral and memorial services, prices, how to choose a funeral home, and more&#8230;<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #808080;\">We hold our own informative annual conference, open to the public.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #808080;\">We are available for personal phone consultations to answer your questions and help you make plans.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #808080;\">We encourage pre-planning, but not pre-paying (except under certain circumstances).<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #808080;\">We serve people of all ages and encourage generations to talk to one another about mortality and planning for death.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #808080;\">We are a member of the Funeral Consumers Alliance, a national federation of funeral consumer information societies. She now lives in West Philly, co-hosts a podcast called I&#8217;M THE VILLAIN, and plays ultimate frisbee in her free time. You can see her work at <a href=\"https:\/\/www.isabelknight.com\/\">isabelknight.com<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Kyle Tevlin<\/strong>\u00a0spent most of her life in northern NJ, was a fine arts major at Smith College\u00a0and worked for most of her career as a graphic designer. She\u00a0currently lives in Chester\u00a0County, PA. She is the founder of\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.iwantafunfuneral.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">www.iwantafunfuneral.com<\/a>, has been a hospice volunteer and event producer, and recently became a co-facilitator of a local Death Cafe.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Patrick Walker<\/strong><em>\u00a0<\/em>is a graduate of Ursinus College and Princeton Theological Seminary with\u00a0concentrations in Psychology and Urban Ministry. He is an ordained Elder in the\u00a0Susquehanna Conference of the United Methodist Church. He has served in the\u00a0Division of Mental Health &amp; Hospitals in New Jersey, a Parish Pastor in York\u00a0County, and as the Executive Director of the York County Council of Churches.\u00a0For the past fourteen years He has been a Community Engagement Specialist\u00a0with Church World Service. He currently serves on the Board of the Family\u00a0Health Council of Central PA.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><strong>Rachel Zeldin<\/strong>\u00a0is a Philadelphia native &amp;\u00a0graduate\u00a0of Drexel University. Following 5 years working in finance, she switched to pursue the start of a funeral planning platform that she wished her family had when her great uncle died. Founder and owner of <a href=\"http:\/\/www.funerals360.com\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Funerals360<\/a> (formerly\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.imsorrytohear.com\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">I\u2019m Sorry to Hear<\/a>), her goal is to provide equal access to information on funeral planning and encourage the sharing of personal funeral planning experiences.
